BEST Eyeshadow Palette(s) of 2017

I LOVE EYE SHADOWS….

The following are my own photos and thoughts.

8A933361-C613-4BC5-8C5E-0C69937D30FFToday’s post is to showcase the 3 eye shadow palettes that I have enjoyed using in 2017.  Two palettes were released in 2017 and the other is from an earlier release.  Out of all the makeup products out there on the market, eye shadows are my makeup of choice.  Addition?  Collector?  I don’t know, all I know is I enjoy shopping my stash each morning as I attempt to create the Mona Lisa of the day… lol.  I know some people that enjoy collecting lip products, others get a rush out of foundation products, but for me, its eye shadow.  With each new palette addition, I became more and more confident with my product application, shade selection (preference), textures/finishes, pigmentation, packaging and brand.  After some thought and deliberation, I chose the following 3 palettes that I feel would best represent my year in review.  These palettes gained this status as top three as they check off all the boxes for me:  1. Is it portable?  2.  Do I use 75% of the shades? 3. Am I using it every week?  If I can pack a palette with me on trip, use almost every shade and use on a regular basis in some way, it gains most used status.  I love eye shadows, whether they are in individual pans or part of a palette.  The tones that I am attracted to are the warm matte shades.  However, I have been branching out into the cool tones, which is a real stretch for me and I must say, I’m liking.

Finding out whether I was warm or cooled toned is something I just don’t get, so I’m going to say that I’m neutral (laughing).  I have gained many helpful tips and tricks along the way but learning about the color wheel, was a pivotal point in my application game.  Who knew, that this simple concept would be a game changer for me… Understanding why certain shades are life long friends from the get go and why some shades go into battle with each others, was a huge lesson learned. Here are my top 3 palettes.

#1 – LAURA MERCIER EYE ARTIST PALETTE

img_2125-1This palette, for the past 3 years, has taken the number one spot as my most used and loved palette, WOW.  I just can’t get enough of it.  The formula that they used for this palette, created some amazingly pigmented shades that melt together and compliment my skin tone the best.  It’s heavenly.  I purchased this palette about 3 years ago.  It was initially released as a limited edition palette, however, the following year, it was added to their permanent line and can be purchased at Sephora.  I have used every shade, and of course, have used some shades more than others.  I have hit pan in 5 shades and I am very close to hitting pan in two more.  The darker shades, I use when I need to build up the outer part of my lid or I use all over my mobile lid.  I lean toward the 7 matte shades and use the 3 sheen shades for a slight shine on my lids.  The remaining 2 lighter shades have a sheen to them and i love using them on my brow bone for a smidge of highlight.  All of theses shades blend into each other remarkably, last all blooming day, shade selection and pairing are off the charts, its just one dang good heck of a palette and takes it away again for 2017.  AGAIN!

#2 – ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS SUBCULTURE PALETTE

2nd two palette the ABH Subculture Palette

Yes indeed, the Subculture palette is my second favorite palette and was released in 2017.  This palette received a lot of negativity from people in the beauty community who purchased it right from the get go or were sent as PR.  I did not purchase my palette right away because of all the bad press it was receiving which spooked me, so I waited.  As I viewed the beauty gurus on YouTube, I would hear that it is a difficult palette to work with, the shades don’t blend well together, it doesn’t make sense, the list is endless.  I was thinking, WHAT THE HECK – is it REALLY that bad?  Am I going to waste my money?  Maybe I shouldn’t purchase it…  in the end, I thought to myself… those are their thoughts on their experience and I should not base my decision on their, not so great, experience/reviews.  However, there was one thing was consistent in each video that was slowing drawing me in, it was the shade selection, OMG so gorgeous. So, I added to my Sephora cart, pressed purchase and received it 2weeks later (yes 2weeks).  When I opened it and started messing around with it, I was hooked.  This palette has allowed me to be creative, to use a total different color out of my comfort zone and have come up with some great looks that I’m proud to be seen in.

Subculture #2 Palette

I honestly, can’t get enough of this sister palette to the Modern Renaissance, the Subculture palette is my second most used / loved palette.  On the Anastasia Beverly Hills website they describe the Subculture palette as “having 14 shades that range from grungy matte to bold metallic with an underground edge”.  I don’t know what that means exactly, but dang, I am so happy that I did not let the negativity around this palette sway my decision to purchase it.  I absolutely love using it.

#3 – VISEART GRANDE PRO PALETTE

Viseart Grande Pro

My third selection is the Viseart Grande Pro, Volume 1 Palette.  It was released late 2017 (November is when I received mine) and I was so happy when I saw my box from Muse Beauty Pro in my mail.
I felt like I had just received the most exquisite piece of fine jewelry in the world as I handled with care…. lol.  I am very impressed with the shade selection and the palette all around, Viseart did an amazing job.  Well Done Viseart!  If you want to see some of the amazing photos of the Viseart products in actions, follow Viseart on Instagram.  I feel like my collection is now complete.  My palette was part of the first 3000 that were release from Muse Beauty Pro and is numbered 1707/3000.

Viseart Grande Pro

The starred shades are the ones that I have been using most frequently.  I did a blog post on this palette, so I won’t go into the details.  Please feel free to check out my Viseart blog post from January 01, 2018.

With that, I wish you all a good day .

Dreads by Nicole!

Creative or what?

Saw these in the kitchen when I got home from the big city… my first thought was, “this should be interesting”. My daughter Nicole has always been very creative with her hair doo’s.  Here, she has her newly cleaned and groomed dreads.  It’s quite the task to get them to this point.  She orders them online and they come packaged in lil tiny bags.  She takes them out of the lil bags, washes them in a rolling soapy method, drys them for a few days and adds some decorative art work to them.  In the end, they always come out different.   Anyway, this was her project last week and can’t wait to see what they will look like on.  If you want to see the end result, all you have to do is “like” this post.

Baking & Cooking?

Check out Bunny Meyer’s attempt at Baking/Cooking:

I started following Bunny Meyer, AKA “GRAV3YARDGIRL“, a couple of years ago.  She has a very intense and very infectious silly bright personality.  Today, as I check out my YouTube Subscriber list, I decide to check out her video on the Baking and Cooking technique. I, personally, do not perform this method as it is a little to much extra product for my mature skin.  This method, is used to basically to set makeup and also to brighten highlighted or contoured areas.  It is interesting to see the wave of interest among the YouTube Guru community when a “New” technique or product hits the stands, so to speak.  Then more amazing, how the viewers need to have that product or try the technique.  Love the phase, “Everyone and their Grandma” is using or trying….!  Anyway back to Baking and Cooking…while watching one of Wayne Goss’s videos, I recall him mentioning that the Baking/Cooking technique originated with the Drag Queen’s community as part of their makeup transformation to enhance their masculine features to a more feminine look.  Make’s sense, so why is is this method being used so regularly within the average everyday Makeup Guru routine?  Because they can, I guess..I don’t know.  More personal preference, i’m sure.

Some perform the baking/cooking technique quite easily, while other’s, like Bunny, are having fun with it.  In her video of October 23rd, 2015, she takes on this technique as part of her “Pinter Test Challenge”.  She proves that we don’t all have to be makeup experts to apply makeup but to just have fun your way.  Good Job Bunny!

April Empties!

Some Amazing Products and Some Not so Amazing

April Empties1

My last empties blog post was on March 18th and since then I have used up quiet a few products.  Some I absolutely loved and will definitely be repurchasing and others I did care for and will not be repurchase.  I am going to list these products in no particular order and write why I liked or disliked each product.

1.  Gucci Guilty Perfume:  This is my 3rd bottle and will definitely be repurchasing.  This fragrance is simply empowering and I only seem to wear it when I know that that day is going to be fabulous and wearing this perfume will ensure that I get everything done with perfection.  I don’t know how to describe this scent but to say it has a floral sweet scent.  It’s awesome and I love it.

2.  Marc Jacobs Daisy Perfume:  Another great fragrance. This is my second bottle and will be repurchasing for is delicate lady like scent.  It’s one of those perfumes that I wear almost everyday because of it’s soft floral scent that stays with me all day.  Absolutely yummy.  img_0079.jpg

3.  Tarte’s Pure Maracuja Oil:  I can’t believe this is my third bottle since last Fall 2014.  I purchased it to prepare my skin for the upcoming Winter season when my skin becomes more drier and needs help from the brutal Winters here in northern Alberta.  It gave my skin the extra moisture it needed and will continue to use until the warmer spring/summer months set in.  Highly recommend. tarte mar oil

4.  Colleen Rothschild’s Radiant Cleansing Balm:  I watched Nicole Guerriero’s April Beauty Favorites 2014 video where she talked about her favs for the month and when she talked about the Radiant Cleansing Balm I was intrigued and thought I need this cleansing balm in my life.  Shortly after watching this video I purchased three products from the Colleen Rothschild website: Moisturizing Cream, Night Cream and the Cleansing Balm.  I am still working on my Moisture Cream which I use sparingly as these products were pricey.  I just used the last bit of my cleansing balm last night and it lasted me almost a year, a little went a long way.  It literally MELTED my makeup off and left my skin feeling smooth and fully cleansed.  This product will be making into my 2015 favorites.  I will also be repurchasing very soon.  Colleen Rothschild

5. NARS Eyeshadow Base:  I have been using this product steady for the past month and not because I liked using it but because I was trying to use it up.  I have oily eyelids and I heard other people saying that this product helped their eyeshadow stay on longer without creasing.  Well it did not help me at all, maybe for a few hours.  Anyway, I used it up and will not be repurchasing.  I will stick with my UD eyelid anti aging primer.

6.    Loreal Voluminous Manga Blackest Black Mascara:  The brush applied the mascara evenly to my lashes and after a couple layers gave my lashes some nice volume and color.  Not so much lengthening but was good.  I like to use different mascaras and I don’t remain loyal to any particular brand.  Why? Mainly because their are so many mascaras out on the market and enjoy testing them out.  I stay away from the high end as the drugstore brands are just as good if not better.

7.  dr. Brandt’s Do Not Age Samples:  I received the Neck Firm Cream and the Triple Peptide Eye Cream as a Sephora sample a few months ago and found that I liked the results.  However, I like my current routine and will not be looking to purchase these products any time soon.  DNA

8.  Moroccan Oil Treatment:  I like using this product on the ends of my hair to keep it from drying out.  It keeps my hair nice and health and gives if a nice sheen throughout the day.  I will continue to purchase.

9.  Benefits’s Porefessional:  This was a small sample size I picked up while waiting in the Sephora checkout line.  I have since purchased a full size and love the way it smooth’s over my pores and hides them nicely.  Awesome product, recommend.

10.  Maybelline’s Dream Lumi Highlighting Concealor:  I am on my 4th tube and will continue to repurchase.  This is my favorite drug store concealor and my shade is light medium.  I love the twist up mechanism and the small brush applicator.

Well that wraps up this months empties, hope you enjoy one or two of these products and would love to hear your thoughts on any one of these products.

ColourPop?

What was I thinking?

Colourpop

I’m not sure I knew what I was getting myself into when I went onto the Colourpop website and start snooping around.  I mean, where is all my self-control when it comes to just looking around a colorful website?  I knew I was in trouble when I clicked on this cute little quad called “Rebound”.  What sold me was the matte colors, gorgeous right?

Colourpop3

I received my Colourpop order in the mail a couple of weeks ago and I have been preoccupied with everyday life to even give them a second thought or even give them a swatch.  I have not worn them yet, I like the shades and I like the weird texture.  Not used to my eyeshadows having this spongy type feel to them but “meehh”, I might as well check them out.

Colour3

Well I just wanted to come on my blog and post my pretties and see what you all think of them.  I will definitely give these darlings a whirl tomorrow!  Anyone out there enjoying them or really dislike them.. let me know in the comment section.  To each their own.

Until next time, think positive and positive will always be around!
