BEST Eyeshadow Palette(s) of 2017

The following are my own photos and thoughts.

8A933361-C613-4BC5-8C5E-0C69937D30FFToday’s post is to showcase the 3 eye shadow palettes that I have enjoyed using in 2017.  Two palettes were released in 2017 and the other is from an earlier release.  Out of all the makeup products out there on the market, eye shadows are my makeup of choice.  Addition?  Collector?  I don’t know, all I know is I enjoy shopping my stash each morning as I attempt to create the Mona Lisa of the day… lol.  I know some people that enjoy collecting lip products, others get a rush out of foundation products, but for me, its eye shadow.  With each new palette addition, I became more and more confident with my product application, shade selection (preference), textures/finishes, pigmentation, packaging and brand.  After some thought and deliberation, I chose the following 3 palettes that I feel would best represent my year in review.  These palettes gained this status as top three as they check off all the boxes for me:  1. Is it portable?  2.  Do I use 75% of the shades? 3. Am I using it every week?  If I can pack a palette with me on trip, use almost every shade and use on a regular basis in some way, it gains most used status.  I love eye shadows, whether they are in individual pans or part of a palette.  The tones that I am attracted to are the warm matte shades.  However, I have been branching out into the cool tones, which is a real stretch for me and I must say, I’m liking.

Finding out whether I was warm or cooled toned is something I just don’t get, so I’m going to say that I’m neutral (laughing).  I have gained many helpful tips and tricks along the way but learning about the color wheel, was a pivotal point in my application game.  Who knew, that this simple concept would be a game changer for me… Understanding why certain shades are life long friends from the get go and why some shades go into battle with each others, was a huge lesson learned. Here are my top 3 palettes.

img_2125-1This palette, for the past 3 years, has taken the number one spot as my most used and loved palette, WOW.  I just can’t get enough of it.  The formula that they used for this palette, created some amazingly pigmented shades that melt together and compliment my skin tone the best.  It’s heavenly.  I purchased this palette about 3 years ago.  It was initially released as a limited edition palette, however, the following year, it was added to their permanent line and can be purchased at Sephora.  I have used every shade, and of course, have used some shades more than others.  I have hit pan in 5 shades and I am very close to hitting pan in two more.  The darker shades, I use when I need to build up the outer part of my lid or I use all over my mobile lid.  I lean toward the 7 matte shades and use the 3 sheen shades for a slight shine on my lids.  The remaining 2 lighter shades have a sheen to them and i love using them on my brow bone for a smidge of highlight.  All of theses shades blend into each other remarkably, last all blooming day, shade selection and pairing are off the charts, its just one dang good heck of a palette and takes it away again for 2017.  AGAIN!

#1 Palette the Laura Mercier, Artist Palettes

2nd two palette the ABH Subculture Palette

Yes indeed, the Subculture palette is my second favorite palette and was released in 2017.  This palette received a lot of negativity from people in the beauty community who purchased it right from the get go or were sent as PR.  I did not purchase my palette right away because of all the bad press it was receiving which spooked me, so I waited.  As I viewed the beauty gurus on YouTube, I would hear that it is a difficult palette to work with, the shades don’t blend well together, it doesn’t make sense, the list is endless.  I was thinking, WHAT THE HECK – is it REALLY that bad?  Am I going to waste my money?  Maybe I shouldn’t purchase it…  in the end, I thought to myself… those are their thoughts on their experience and I should not base my decision on their, not so great, experience/reviews.  However, there was one thing was consistent in each video that was slowing drawing me in, it was the shade selection, OMG so gorgeous. So, I added to my Sephora cart, pressed purchase and received it 2weeks later (yes 2weeks).  When I opened it and started messing around with it, I was hooked.  This palette has allowed me to be creative, to use a total different color out of my comfort zone and have come up with some great looks that I’m proud to be seen in.

Subculture #2 Palette

I honestly, can’t get enough of this sister palette to the Modern Renaissance, the Subculture palette is my second most used / loved palette.  On the Anastasia Beverly Hills website they describe the Subculture palette as “having 14 shades that range from grungy matte to bold metallic with an underground edge”.  I don’t know what that means exactly, but dang, I am so happy that I did not let the negativity around this palette sway my decision to purchase it.  I absolutely love using it.

Viseart Grande Pro

My third selection is the Viseart Grande Pro, Volume 1 Palette.  It was released late 2017 (November is when I received mine) and I was so happy when I saw my box from Muse Beauty Pro in my mail.
I felt like I had just received the most exquisite piece of fine jewelry in the world as I handled with care…. lol.  I am very impressed with the shade selection and the palette all around, Viseart did an amazing job.  Well Done Viseart!  If you want to see some of the amazing photos of the Viseart products in actions, follow Viseart on Instagram.  I feel like my collection is now complete.  My palette was part of the first 3000 that were release from Muse Beauty Pro and is numbered 1707/3000.

Viseart Grande Pro

The starred shades are the ones that I have been using most frequently.  I did a blog post on this palette, so I won’t go into the details.  Please feel free to check out my Viseart blog post from January 01, 2018.

With that, I wish you all a good day .

Playing with Makeup!

I had a great time playing with Makeup this past weekend.

Me Playing1

Every have one of those days when you just felt like playing with makeup?  That was me on Sunday.  I have been wanting to do something out of my comfort zone and this is what I came up with.

Me Playing 7

This won’t be a long blog post, I did want to post my pics of the look I created and put it up today.  It’s late, 10:44pm and I’m here thinking about life and things that happen that are out of my control.  This past Sunday, I had one of those days where I just felt like checking out my “Everything Nice Palette” from Too Faced and my Colourpop Cheek blushes.

Me Playing 8

So this is what the end result looked like.  Definitely, not a look that is office appropriate but more so for and evening out.  Anyway, it was fun and makeup play time is better with my granddaughter Fancy, she’s got an eye for the good stuff like my Charlotte Tilbury and March Jacob palettes… Good Taste.

Me Playing 4 Until next time, take care and always pay attention to you inner child.

Can we all just take a deep breath and appreciate this AMAZING PALETTE!

Nars Dual Cover

I literally had to force myself to stop reaching for this shiny amazing, all I ever need palette.  Seriously, I have some issues.   Dang, I enjoy using this palette and the one single shadow I bought because I thought that these 8 were not enough, said the woman with a million palettes.
I just LOVE this palette!  There!  I feel much better.
At first, when I purchased it, I thought, “what the heck am I going to do with these shade colors”? But I didn’t care, I just kept on going down the road of no return.  I began to swatch each one very carefully and then I would examine it.  Holding my swatched arm in dim light, bright lights, sun light and I thought, huh! not bad.
IMG_0618Then the unthinkable happened, I was reaching for my makeup brushes and it’s like I was possessed by the makeup gods, my hands moving with such finesse, swirling and swiping.  It was over in a few minutes.  I sat there stunned looking at the image in the mirror, who was this Goddess staring back at me?  I started to examine the colors and my work and I thought, I LOVE THIS PALETTE!  That was maybe 2 months ago and I am hooked.  So, my words to you are,   I highly recommend this palette to anyone out there that is flirting with the idea of wanting to change things up and wanting a palette that would give you great color and is easy to use.  I  am in no way a makeup artist or pro, I have learned from trial and error, and this palette is phenomenal.  I’m sure many of you have tried this palette but for those of you that have not, take it from someone that just loves makeup, it’s a great pallet.

Until next time, stay stunning!

Today’s Makeup!

A Quick Post on the Products that I used…

todays makeup 1

I am listing each product as I would put them on..

Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer has a more of a watery type consistency, which I’m not too keen on but it performs fabulously once I got over the consistency.  I do still prefer my MAC Prep + Prime and do enjoy changing up my products as there is always something new to check out.
Benefits Porefessional was used around my nose area and forehead where my pores are more prominent.  It seems to nicely prepare my skin for my foundation and leaves a nice smooth finish.  I feel that the Hourglass and the Benefit Primer do a great job together and the desired effect is achieved, which is a great base for my foundation.  Well done!
Lorac’s Eye Primer was patted gently on my eye lid area.  First time using this primer so I don’t have any comments to make on it.  I usually use NAR’s eye primer or a MAC’s paint pot in Painterly or Groundwork.
I used the Dior Skin in #30 Beige foundation, which also has an SPF of 15.  One of my top 3 foundations and I love it because to blends so nice and gives me a great flawless finish.
Next is the NARS concealer in Custard to hide my dark circles and to lighten up my under eye area.
To set my concealer and foundation I used the Laura Mercier translucent finishing powder, one word “flawless”.  Also my holy grail finishing powder!
To fill in my brows, I used the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow in Medium and used the spooley from the ABH Brow Wiz to blend the product throughout my barely there brows.
On to my cheeks, where I used the Charlotte Tilbury’s Cheek to Chic Blush in Sex on Fire to use as a slight contour and blush.  I tried something a little different and used the Pop part (middle) of the product as the contour and the Swish part (Outter) as the blush.  This left me with a very soft blended look.
For my highlight I pulled out the big guns, the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact in Copper Diamond.  OMG, I am really loving this product, it gives me a really nice highlight and blends well with which ever blush I am using that day.  To me, on my complexion, I get a soft golden glow, smoking!  Awesome job Bobbie Brown.
I like to do my foundation, cheeks and brows before my eyeshadow.
For my eyeshadow I used two palettes, the ABH Maya Mia and the Charlotte Tilbury’s Sophisticate palette.  I used the lighter shades from the CT palette and Caramel from the Maya Mia palette.  I did not do a strong eyeshadow as I was going for a more natural look.
My mascara was the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara which has been a great go to mascara for giving me the thick lash look.  You can see in this picture that I barely even have lashes, which is why I need all the help I can get from a mascara.
The only product that I used and is not in the picture is MAC’s Finishing Spray… Love!

So there you have it, my friends, look of the day.  Until next, keep looks good on you and you never know who you may be inspiring 🙂

I am totally in love with Makeup Geek Eyeshadows and are my absolute favorite.  They are versatile, creamy, buttery, come in a wide range of colors and finishes and best of all the price is phenomenally affordable!

Marlena is the founder and CEO of the Makeup Geek Cosmetics.  I also love that she offers educational tutorials that teach people, like me, how to apply makeup to create a variety of looks.  Best of all, when I visit her website, MAKEUPGEEK.COM, I find a wide variety of cosmetics that she has developed from eyeshadows to cheek blushes.  Marlena is constantly developing more great products and in my opinion, are the best of the best and are always better than the last.

A NARS Makeup Day!

Yesterday I started writing a post about the fabulous look I came up with using all NARS products, however, I accidently hit the Publish icon before I was done writing and editing it and took it down as fast as I could.  Now that I have some time to myself and I can pull my thoughts together, I can now redo my blog post from yesterday.

I have a good selection of NARS products that every woman should have or I would even recommend that you start with these two palettes from the very beginning, they are that fabulous.  I did a good job of pulling my small NARS collection together for this look, however, I did need to pull out a couple other products to complete this look.

I started out using:

  1. MACs Prep n Prime as I do not have a NARS face primer base.. oooppsss
  2. NARS Eye Base Primer
  3. NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation in Barcelona.  I received a sample from Sephora and fell in love with it and have since ordered it and I’m anxiously waiting for it to arrive in the mail.  Dap Dap Dap…I’m waiting….
  4. I have been enjoying the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard but I feel it’s a bit to light.  I need the next shade up. IMG_0619
  5. Next I pulled out the big guns… two palettes that go together like cookies and milk:
    • the NARS Virtual Domination Cheek Palette and used Laguna Bronzing Powder for my contouring and the “Sex Fantasy” Cheek Blush…Oh I love the way this adds a nice color to my cheeks with just a few passes of my brush.  Saaawwweeetttt!  Of course, I used Albatross for highlighting and a dab of “Miss Liberty Highlighting Blush” on top, like I didn’t have enough hightlighting on, but it brought everything together….. Saaawwweeettteerrrr! nars 9
    • Then for my eyes I used the NARS NARSissist Dual Intensity Eyeshadow Palette.  Not really much to say except that “IM ADDICTED” to this phenomenal palette.  I mean, WHAT THE… I can’t stop using this palette, it’s that fabulous.  I wish I had eyeshadows like these to use back in my day. IMG_0618
  6. I could have been done after steps 1-5 but nope, I used the NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder to set every beautiful product in place.
  7. My brows I used the Anastasia Dip Brown in Medium and for Mascara I used Tarte’s Light’s Camera Lashes.

There you have it, all the NARS products that I used for yesterday’s look, with a little help from MAC, Anastasia and Tarte.

I hope you enjoyed my post today and look forward to writing about whatever I feel fits my motto “BEAUTY NATIVE STYLE” tomorrow.  Until next time, stay Fabulous. 🙂
