Dreads by Nicole!

Creative or what?

Saw these in the kitchen when I got home from the big city… my first thought was, “this should be interesting”. My daughter Nicole has always been very creative with her hair doo’s.  Here, she has her newly cleaned and groomed dreads.  It’s quite the task to get them to this point.  She orders them online and they come packaged in lil tiny bags.  She takes them out of the lil bags, washes them in a rolling soapy method, drys them for a few days and adds some decorative art work to them.  In the end, they always come out different.   Anyway, this was her project last week and can’t wait to see what they will look like on.  If you want to see the end result, all you have to do is “like” this post.

“My Neechie Bling”

Made by Beverly Pasquayak

Bevs Work 1

I have a very dear friend that is so talented when it comes to designing Native Regalia’s, ribbon shirts, Native Designed Purses or specialty items and my favorite, beaded jewelry.  Whether she is creating earrings, necklaces, medallions, hair pieces or specialty items, her work phenomenal.  The beadwork or Native themed jewelry that I see being sold in department stores is no way near the same quality.  Each piece that she creates is unique and is never the same.  Each bead is placed with precision and the outcome is a reflection of her thoughts and feelings during its creation.  Which is why her pieces stand out to me.

There are many Native people throughout Turtle Island that are have a talent for creating beaded jewelry and are displayed proudly during our Pow Wow Season and are worn on a daily basis.  Every beaded piece is finely made, is detailed and precision is key in the creating “Wicked Neechie Bling”.

90% of my collection is beaded or in someway have a Native Theme and when I say “Native Theme”, I mean, that piece will be beaded or may have some turquoise incorporated into the pieces.  I am one of those people who can scan over jewelry and only pick up jewelry that speaks to me or more so my soul.  Which is why my collection all have a story behind them.

This set that I am showcasing today is my favorite set.  Beverly Pasquayak is the creator of this finely beaded set that came with a set of earrings, a necklace and a barrett.  I was absolutely drawn to this set as it reminds me of the cape that I started beading years back and never completed.  Yes, this lady has a talent for creating pieces that just soothe my soul.  I only wear this set when I feel on top of my game, thank you Bev, your awesome.

I will continue to showcase a set or a piece of my beaded jewelry collection each month.  So with that, thank you for stopping by and reading my blog, it is much appreciated, stay fabulous.

I had an amazingly informative visit yesterday when I ventured into the  Shoppers Drug Mart Beauty Boutique in Lloydminister, Alberta.  My husband had some business to do in Lloyd and asked me if I would like go on a road trip with him to Lloyd for day, my mind immediately started going through my list of “things we needed and things I wanted”, while nodding “YES”.   After his business was done, we stopped at the Lloyd Mall and went our separate ways and would meet up later.  I immediately walked to the Shoppers Drug Mart store and had one thing on my list, toothpaste.  That morning, I had to cut open my already empty tube of toothpaste and managed to scrape out the enough toothpaste to do a very minimal job of brushing my teeth, don’t you just hate that when that happens?.  Anyway, I grabbed my Crest Regular toothpaste, they were on sale to I grabbed 3, and continued wandering around the store when I found myself in the Cosmetic area, like this was not planned, lol.  Thing is, I should have cured my cosmetic fix the day before when I stopped at the Shopper’s Drug Mart in Fort Saskatchewan and bought an insane amount of amazing cosmetics, but no I had to buy more, sheeesh.  I started out kind of slow, scanning over all the drugstore cosmetics, Revlon, Maybelline, Cover Girl, L’Oreal and all the other drugstore brands but what I was really after were the high-end products.  Imagine my shock when I learned that this Shoppers Drug Mart did not offer the Urban Decay, Stila, Benefit, Shiseido, Lise Watier or any other the other high-end cosmetics you usually see at Shoppers.  I also learned from the amazing lady who assisted me, that come September the Shoppers Drug Mart would be opening up at a new location and would be offering the higher end cosmetic in their beauty boutique, thank goodness.

POWDER BRONZE

I ended up chit chatting with Michelle Yarosloski the Shoppers Beauty Consultant, what a fabulous lady, about the different products I was picking up to review on my Blog (beautynativestyle.com) and about bronzer.  I showed her the “Soap and Glory” Shower & Bath Body Wash that has peppermint essential oils & grape seed EFAs, Body Buff with babassu oil, sea salt and moisturizing jojoba & mandarin oils, and the Righteous Butter with softening shea butter and aloe vera.  I will be doing a review of all this Soap & Glory products later this month.  I also picked up my first Lancôme’s Mineral Smoothing Loose Bronzer that maybe discontinued as I cannot find it so that I can gives  a true lustrous gl0w, an exqousite wear.  Michelle and I then got talking about my product reviews and I asked about the Lancôme bronzers and that I would like to review this as well.  She was unable to swatch them for me because their was no testers available for swatching, which I thought was not right.  For me swatching, blotting, smearing and spritzing are important to ensure I buy the right shades for my complexion.  Needless to say, Michelle did a fabulous job with the resources she had available.  I also filled out the survey and did commented about this issue

SHOPPERS DRUG MART SAMPLES
March 2, 2014

as my concern, hoping that Shopper’s will give her the sample products she needs to accommodate her clientele.  Michelle, being the fabulous comostician (is that even a word?), made up for not being able to swatch, gave me samples to try out for my review, AWESOME.  I just love freebee’z.  She gave me a full size LOREAL COLOR RICHE – Lip Liner in Eternal Mauve and has an Anti-Feathering effect.  I also received a TWEEZERMAN PROFESSIONAL lighted round mirror, a NEOSTRATA – Secure White Anti Dark Circle & Brightening Cream Samples and a sample size LANCOME – Absolue Yeux-Skin Care Eye Treatment that will work to fully rejuvenate my full expressive look, humm interesting.  I am so excited about this whole experience as it was my first time receiving products to review on my Blog, how awesome is that.  So, I will definitely be doing a review on these products in a couple of weeks and let you my thought on these products.  The ladies and gentlemen at the Shoppers Drug Mart Beauty Boutiques are very knowledgeable and are always willig to assist me when I walk in the door, Thank you, it is very much appreciated.  Bye for now,  keep smiling Beauty Native Style 🙂

I LOVE MY NECHI BLING!

BEV CREE-ATIONS

Some people may like to shop for clothing, purses, shoes or even cookware and that’s just fine. As for myself, I love my Nechi Bling!  I have one lady who does most of my bead work for me and she never ceases to amaze me with her work.  Each piece is different from the last in some way or another and each piece has her good positive thoughts embedded into each bead.  When our women bead, the one thing they do not do is bead when they are troubled or in a not so good space as these thoughts and feeling will be transferred into their work.  Every cook a meal when you are in a bad mood?  What is the outcome?  Same thing holds for beading.  I wanted to share with you this last piece that she completed for me, which I think is simply amazing.  She has definitely out done herself this time, good job Bev!  Until next time, take care.
