BEST Eyeshadow Palette(s) of 2017

I LOVE EYE SHADOWS….

The following are my own photos and thoughts.

8A933361-C613-4BC5-8C5E-0C69937D30FFToday’s post is to showcase the 3 eye shadow palettes that I have enjoyed using in 2017.  Two palettes were released in 2017 and the other is from an earlier release.  Out of all the makeup products out there on the market, eye shadows are my makeup of choice.  Addition?  Collector?  I don’t know, all I know is I enjoy shopping my stash each morning as I attempt to create the Mona Lisa of the day… lol.  I know some people that enjoy collecting lip products, others get a rush out of foundation products, but for me, its eye shadow.  With each new palette addition, I became more and more confident with my product application, shade selection (preference), textures/finishes, pigmentation, packaging and brand.  After some thought and deliberation, I chose the following 3 palettes that I feel would best represent my year in review.  These palettes gained this status as top three as they check off all the boxes for me:  1. Is it portable?  2.  Do I use 75% of the shades? 3. Am I using it every week?  If I can pack a palette with me on trip, use almost every shade and use on a regular basis in some way, it gains most used status.  I love eye shadows, whether they are in individual pans or part of a palette.  The tones that I am attracted to are the warm matte shades.  However, I have been branching out into the cool tones, which is a real stretch for me and I must say, I’m liking.

Finding out whether I was warm or cooled toned is something I just don’t get, so I’m going to say that I’m neutral (laughing).  I have gained many helpful tips and tricks along the way but learning about the color wheel, was a pivotal point in my application game.  Who knew, that this simple concept would be a game changer for me… Understanding why certain shades are life long friends from the get go and why some shades go into battle with each others, was a huge lesson learned. Here are my top 3 palettes.

#1 – LAURA MERCIER EYE ARTIST PALETTE

img_2125-1This palette, for the past 3 years, has taken the number one spot as my most used and loved palette, WOW.  I just can’t get enough of it.  The formula that they used for this palette, created some amazingly pigmented shades that melt together and compliment my skin tone the best.  It’s heavenly.  I purchased this palette about 3 years ago.  It was initially released as a limited edition palette, however, the following year, it was added to their permanent line and can be purchased at Sephora.  I have used every shade, and of course, have used some shades more than others.  I have hit pan in 5 shades and I am very close to hitting pan in two more.  The darker shades, I use when I need to build up the outer part of my lid or I use all over my mobile lid.  I lean toward the 7 matte shades and use the 3 sheen shades for a slight shine on my lids.  The remaining 2 lighter shades have a sheen to them and i love using them on my brow bone for a smidge of highlight.  All of theses shades blend into each other remarkably, last all blooming day, shade selection and pairing are off the charts, its just one dang good heck of a palette and takes it away again for 2017.  AGAIN!

#2 – ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS SUBCULTURE PALETTE

2nd two palette the ABH Subculture Palette

Yes indeed, the Subculture palette is my second favorite palette and was released in 2017.  This palette received a lot of negativity from people in the beauty community who purchased it right from the get go or were sent as PR.  I did not purchase my palette right away because of all the bad press it was receiving which spooked me, so I waited.  As I viewed the beauty gurus on YouTube, I would hear that it is a difficult palette to work with, the shades don’t blend well together, it doesn’t make sense, the list is endless.  I was thinking, WHAT THE HECK – is it REALLY that bad?  Am I going to waste my money?  Maybe I shouldn’t purchase it…  in the end, I thought to myself… those are their thoughts on their experience and I should not base my decision on their, not so great, experience/reviews.  However, there was one thing was consistent in each video that was slowing drawing me in, it was the shade selection, OMG so gorgeous. So, I added to my Sephora cart, pressed purchase and received it 2weeks later (yes 2weeks).  When I opened it and started messing around with it, I was hooked.  This palette has allowed me to be creative, to use a total different color out of my comfort zone and have come up with some great looks that I’m proud to be seen in.

Subculture #2 Palette

I honestly, can’t get enough of this sister palette to the Modern Renaissance, the Subculture palette is my second most used / loved palette.  On the Anastasia Beverly Hills website they describe the Subculture palette as “having 14 shades that range from grungy matte to bold metallic with an underground edge”.  I don’t know what that means exactly, but dang, I am so happy that I did not let the negativity around this palette sway my decision to purchase it.  I absolutely love using it.

#3 – VISEART GRANDE PRO PALETTE

Viseart Grande Pro

My third selection is the Viseart Grande Pro, Volume 1 Palette.  It was released late 2017 (November is when I received mine) and I was so happy when I saw my box from Muse Beauty Pro in my mail.
I felt like I had just received the most exquisite piece of fine jewelry in the world as I handled with care…. lol.  I am very impressed with the shade selection and the palette all around, Viseart did an amazing job.  Well Done Viseart!  If you want to see some of the amazing photos of the Viseart products in actions, follow Viseart on Instagram.  I feel like my collection is now complete.  My palette was part of the first 3000 that were release from Muse Beauty Pro and is numbered 1707/3000.

The starred shades are the ones that I have been using most frequently.  I did a blog post on this palette, so I won’t go into the details.  Please feel free to check out my Viseart blog post from January 01, 2018.

With that, I wish you all a good day .

Some Favorites!

Here are a few products that I have enjoyed using this month.

Can you guess which product has Holy Grail status?

You can leave you guess down in the comment section.

Kat Von D’s Innersteller EyeShadow Palette:  (click here for Sephora details) I love my purples and find that I’m liking the cooler tones, huh, who knew!  The contour shade is “ok”, the eyeshadow shades are really nice and I have been able to come up with some great looks this month.  All in all a good palette.

Too Faced – Soul Mates – Blushing Bronzer – Carrie & Big(click here for Sephora details) This soft bronzer has a tiny hint of a sheen to it, in my opinion, and is amazing used all by itself or swirled with the peach colored blush, now that’s a gorgeous pairing!

Tarte’s Maracuja Oil(click here for Sephora details) This is my second bottle in 6 months for peat sakes.  When I first purchased, I thought that this would be a product that I was just buying because of all the hype.  However, as soon as I started using it, I totally understood all the hype that it was getting.  I have dry to normal skin and during the winter, my skin was absolutely drinking it in.  The result was soooo yummy and soft.  It will be a love for a long long time… 🙂

I have the Tarte Maracuja Bronzing Serum in my Sephora Cart..lol!

My Empties

Favorite Products

I always feel some urgency when I come to the last little bit of a product, especially if it’s a product I enjoy using and even more so if can’t get right way because I have to travel into the big city to purchase.

Here I have a few holy grail products that I have backs ups waiting and ready to go.  Some products I enjoyed using, however, will not be repurchasing, not because I didn’t like using them but because I can not justify the cost and there is always a similar product to try out.

EMPTIES

Here are my thoughts on my empties from most used to least used:

Tarte’s Maracuja Oil is a product that I have come to enjoy using and have repurchased several times.  I have dry skin and I apply this oil before my moisturizer and it leaves my skin fully moisturized and smoother looking skin, it is a must have for me.

MAC’s Prep + Prime Fix is an absolute must have for myself.  This mineralized finishing mist is sooooo amazingly refreshing and I just love the way it feels going on and how it smooths out my makeup.  This is one product that I will always have back ups that are locked loaded and ready to go.  All I do, after I have completed applying my makeup, is spritz it all over my face and it gives me the most amazing smooth finish that leaves me feeling like a super model ready to walk down the run way, boo yahh!

MAC PrepHourglass’s Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light is very lovely and I like the way it blends my whole makeup look together.  The Hourglass Ambient powders, as explained on Sephora’s website, are meant to capture, diffuse and soften the way the light reflects on our skin.  The powders are to deliver a multidimensional luminescence to every skintone, making it appear softer, younger and lit-from-within.  Basically, the Ambient Powders will enhance our skin in different kinds of light and do not have a fragrance to them.  I love this powder and have my back up ready to go.

Marc Jacobs Daisy perfume is another must have for me.  This fragrance makes me feel very lady like and I absolutely love its delicate sweet scent.  Girl, if you have not tested it out then I recommend that the next time you are at Sephora or any fragrance counter, check it out.  I’m sure you will walk out with a bottle or two.

Daisy with Beadwork & Box1The Guerlain Mascara was a product that I used to the bitter bottom not because I loved the product but because of the cost.  Mind you I only paid half price for it at Shopper’s Drug Mart but even at half price it’s a lot more than I would normally pay for a mascara.  There are so many great drug store mascara’s that purchasing a $32 mascara seems a weeeee bit outrageous.  This mascara was kinda clumpy and flaked quite abit during the day, maybe it was not a fresh batch and which is why it was in the half off basket, but still it should have been more wearable.  Anywho, I don’t have any plans of repurchasing!

guerlain

The Clinique Mascara was a deluxe sample that I received with my 100 points rewards at Sephora.  I recall enjoying this mascara, I really don’t know why I have not repurchased, it was great.  It lengthened, it separated, it thickened and best of all the applicator wand was perfect.  Excuse me for a few minutes while I go an add this mascara to my Sephora cart…. OMG, I couldn’t find it…yikes

I have 3 YSL products and one of them was the Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat –  Radiant Touch in Luminous Vanilla.  I did enjoy using this concealer as it was great at hiding my dark under eye circle situation like a dream.  I definitely would have repurchased this wonderful concealer, but “damn” that loveliness is expensive at $50 for 0.1oz.  Since I just ran out, I will have to wait for one of Sephora’s discount days before I can repurchase but then again, in the mean time I’m hitting up the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard.  Now there’s a concealer with an attitude.

The Estee Lauder Resilience Lift Firming / Sculpting Face and Neck Crème was fabulous but with all the great lotions out on the market, it’s so easy to get distracted.  So I used it up and then moved on to the Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream that I picked up at Costco.  I mean, who knew you could pick up beauty lotions at Costco, I didn’t.  Since I have started using the Regenerist Cream I have not even given the Estee Lauder a second thought.  Now that I have jumped that ship, I was at Costco last week I picked up two for about $49, OMG.  Anyway, great stuff and I’m hooked.

regenNow lets talk about the AMORE PACIFIC Time Response Eye Renewal Crème.  While at Nordstrom’s I was treated to a mini makeover and received some samples and one was the Amore Eye Cream.  Geee whiz was this an amazing eye cream, if it was so darn expensive I would be all up in that product.  It’s creamy delicate texture was so gorgeous and left my eyes looking so refreshed and softened all my fine lines.  I wish I could always have this product on hand but I can’t, it’s just to pricey for me. 😦  But I will return for another sample 🙂

Lastly, the Soap & Glory – The Righteous Butter with softening shea butter and aloe vera.  The product worked well, was creamy and nourishing BUT I will not be repurchasing because I did not like the smell of this lotion.  I tried to like it and ignore it but I couldn’t.  The product it’s self was great but….. a no go for me.

Well that’s it for my first ever Empties post.  I’ve never done one before and I hope that it was helpful to someone but more so it was a good record for myself for future reference.  So, until next time, stay gorgeous and fabulous.
